MediaTek, the third largest mobile phone chipmaker in the world, has announced its latest family of system on chip which will be seen on high-end smartphones. The new SoC family, called Helio, will aim to combine high performance with a low power consumption.
According to a report in Digitimes , the first member of the Helio family will be the X10 series chipset, which will be a 64-bit SoC having an octa-core Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.2GHz. This chipset will also support display refresh rates of up to 120Hz and will be capable of shooting slow motion videos at 480fps.
According to the company, “Helio is MediaTek’s premium mobile processor family which integrates leading heterogeneous computing technology with advanced multimedia innovations.”
Later on in 2015, MediaTek expectes to launch the Helio P-series line which the company describes as a range of premium performance chips. There were no details on this line of chipsets.
The first smartphone to sport the Helio chipset will start selling from the second quarter of 2015 onwards.
