After a short delay, OnePlus’s custom ROM, dubbed OxygenOS, is now available for OnePlus users to download. The company stated its blog that by creating the forked-Android operating system will “provide faster, more meaningful updates and a better-integrated range of services for every OnePlus user.”
The Lollipop-based (OS 5.0.2) OxygenOS goes “back to basics” with an emphasis on “performance and battery life over gimmicks and bloated features.” OnePlus stated it didn’t want to add in features “simply for the sake of differentiation.” Some of the notable features include improved file manager, screen-off gestures like double-tap to wake, music controls, shortcuts for the camera and flashlight, customizable lockscreen wallpapers, and “tiles can be added, removed, and re-organized with the click of a button.”
“This is just a beginning; a platform on which we will build, together,” the company says on its site. Thankfully, there is no invite required to install it.
