The new Moto G is bigger, better and more expensive

The Moto G took the budget smartphone market by storm when it arrived on the scene in 2013, but now in it's third iteration the new Moto G (2015) is a more mature - and more expensive - offering.

Launched alongside the Moto X Play and Moto X Style, the Moto G slides in above the entry-level Moto E although with SIM-free prices now starting at £179, $179 (around AU$380) for the 8GB version it doesn't appear to be quiet the steal it once was.

The Moto E has improved, so if you're looking for the a cheap Motorola it's not a bad option, but the Moto G 2015 offers a sizeable 5-inch HD display, the 13MP rear camera from the Nexus 6, 5MP front camera, 2470mAh battery, a range of colourful shells and the ability to customise the phone further with Moto Maker.

Running the pure Android 5.1.1 show is a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor and either 1GB or 2GB of RAM depending on whether you plump for the 8GB or 16GB of internal storage.

Dunk me!

Motorola claims the new Moto G offers up all day battery life, while the addition of IPX7 protection means it's now waterproof up to depths of 1 metre for 30 minutes.

The third generation Moto G is also the first G handset to become available in Moto Maker - allowing you to customise your own personal handset, from colours and accents to rear covers and more.

Fancy getting your hands on the new Moto G 2015? Well the good news is that it's available today in over 60 countries in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia Pacific.

As we've mentioned the 8GB model starts at £179, $179 (around AU$380), while those looking for more storage will want to check out the £209 (around $320, AU$440), 16GB version.

For those in the UK you'll be able to snaffle a Moto G for £159 if you visit Three, O2 or Vodafone.
