Thanks to Sony dropping some subtle – and not so subtle – hints earlier this week, it looks pretty certain that we will be seeing the Sony Xperia Z5 on September 2 at IFA 2015, and now a set of leaked press photos that claim to be of the upcoming flagship have emerged, giving us an idea of what the handset could look like.
The first image, which was published on the XperiaBlog website, apparently shows the back of the Xperia Z5, and if it is legitimate it looks like Sony isn't straying too far from its Xperia design template, as the handset looks very similar to the Xperia Z3+.
The second image apparently shows a close up of the side of the Xperia Z4, with the word "Xperia" engraved into the body. There are also splashes of water visible, which indicated that the Z4 will probably be water and dust proof like its predecessors.
A close up of the camera
The final image shows a close up of the alleged Xperia Z5's camera. As with previous models of the Xperia, the megapixel rating of the snapper is printed on the back of the handset, and we can see here that it says 23MP, apparently corroborating reports that the Z5 will come with a boosted megapixel count.
The stylised shot, which looks a lot like previous press images of older Xperia models, shows a breakdown of the camera and its lenses, hinting that it will also use a fast hybrid auto focus system – which Sony has hinted at when it tweeted "get ready for a smartphone with greater focus".
We've reached out to Sony to see if it will comment on the legitimacy of these images, but if they are fake, it seems like the creators made a lot of effort to make them look as authentic as possible.
