Reddit user Mr. Purple has captured a lot of attention recently for his custom-made IKEA bedside table, which features a hidden Qi wireless charger for topping up his Moto G.
The project is fairly simple – just a Qi charging adapter that fits inside his phone and a matching coil for the IKEA table. The table was cut open on its underside to fit the coil, which is connected to a power source and sits around 3mm below the surface. The charging coil was initially held in place with paper, but concerned Redditors suggested a plastic enclosure to reduce the risk of fire. Once everything worked, Mr. Purple finished the project with a simple spray-painted Qi charging logo.

It’s a pretty impressive project, and not too difficult to do either. If you’d prefer to avoid the DIY route, you can also pick up a lamp or an IKEA nightstand that has wireless charging built in (or a whole range of Qi wireless chargers in various shapes and sizes).
