LG has been working with Google closely this year on the Nexus 5X smartphone and the company’s proximity to the Android parent means that the G4 flagship smartphone is getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow quicker than most. After being rolled out in Poland last month, the update is now coming to LG’s homeland of South Korea.
It is best to think of the Polish Marshmallow launch as a tester, this is the full rollout starting for the G4. It is the first non-Nexus smartphone to get the build, while only the HTC One A9 (announced last week) will ship with Marshmallow out of the box, so far at least.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow brings with it plenty of new features, including native support for fingerprint scanners, a new Doze feature, which shuts down background apps when not in use, and Google Now on Tap. We suspect that LG may update some of its software and even enhance the aesthetic of its UI to fit in with the Marshmallow design language.
