Pop quiz. What is the fastest processor on the market? It’s the Samsung Exynos 7 7420 chipset that is found in the top five best benchmarked smartphones in 2015. However, the 7420 now has a major rival with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and the Huawei Kirin 950, two chips that will likely be quicker than the Exynos 7.

A day after Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 820 Samsung has hit straight back by unveiling the Exynos 8 8890. This is a new octa-core processor with 64-bit capabilities and is built on a 14nm FinFET manufacturing process. Samsung promises that the Exynos 8890 will deliver 30% better performance compared to this year’s 7420, while it will manage to be 10% more power efficient.
