The OnePlus One is a fantastic phone, but the requirement for an invite made it bizarrely hard to get hold of during its first few months on sale. The OnePlus 2 will also require an invite to purchase, but this time it should be a lot easier to come by one.
In a new blog post OnePlus has highlighted changes to its invite system and other than the fact that there's still an invite system at all, they're for the better.
For one thing OnePlus plans to stock far more handsets at launch, apparently as many as 30 to 50 times the inventory it had last year. With more OnePlus 2 handsets available there will naturally be more invites floating around too.
Get on the list
OnePlus is also aiming to make it easier to get hold of an invite, with a reservation list allowing you to just sign up, at which point you'll be sent an invite as soon as one becomes available. Previously you typically had to be a OnePlus community member or participate in promotions to get one, though early forum supporters will still be first in line for an invite.
Once you've bought a OnePlus 2 you'll also be able to invite friends to buy one. This was the case last year too, but this time the shareable invites will be sent out much faster.
With all those changes getting hold of the OnePlus 2 will hopefully be far less hassle and far quicker to do than nabbing a OnePlus One was.
We'd still prefer no invites at all, but OnePlus explains in the post that it's the best way it's found to manage risk. Plus this time around you'll get a physical invite card, which is a nice touch.
