The Moto X Play has a massive 3630mAh battery, but somehow the phone only ships with a measly 1A charger. That means it takes an absolute age to recharge the phone, even though the X Play actually does support Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 standard (which uses 2A+ chargers at higher voltages). We tested the Moto X Play with a Quick Charge 2.0 charger, and you can see the results in the video:

Basically, you can swap the default charger with a Quick Charge 2.0 alternative, and experience much faster recharges. In fact, the X Play’s battery can be charged from 0 to 50% in just 30 minutes using one of these Quick Charge 2.0 chargers – a massive improvement. Charging from 0 to 100% takes an hour and a half, which is again impressive.*

* You might wonder why charging from 50% to 100% takes longer than charging from 0 to 50%. The reason is down to the battery’s chemistry; charging speeds go down as the battery fills up. This is true of all batteries of this type, and isn’t a unique feature of the Moto X Play or Quick Charge 2.0.
