HTC has posted an image on the Chinese social media website Weibo hinting at a new smartphone launching on September 6.

The post contains an image that shows the outline of a phone and some fancy graphical effects, along with text that Android Authority has translated as "September 6, "Meng Yao," the listing, so stay tuned!"

A reader has also translated some of the text as saying, "It obviously has solid strength, but it still relies on the looks, there are so many minor merits, but advertisement can't convey it".

If the translation is accurate it seems like we'll be getting a handset that could look at first glance to be very similar to HTC's previous handsets, like the HTC One M9, but with a number of important tweaks under the hood.

Is this the Aero?

The device that HTC is hinting at unveiling on September 6 could be the rumoured HTC Aero, a new flagship device that is rumoured to be released before the HTC One M10 – which we expect to see next year.

We've previously heard from HTC's CEO Cher Wang that a new 'hero' smartphone will be released in October, so a September unveiling makes sense.

Other rumours suggest that the HTC Aero will come with a QHD screen, and the display could even have slightly curved edges.
